Shambhala Day & Grand Opening Celebration

February 7th

Date details +

Shambhala Day marks the beginning of the New Year and represents one of the most important traditions of Shambhala Buddhism.

Based on the traditional Tibetan New Year’s celebration of Losar, the day is calculated astrologically according to the Tibetan lunar calendar and changes every year to coincide with the annual lunar cycles.

This year we are celebrating both the beginning of the Year of the Earth Boar (thoughtful, generous, good-humored) and the grand opening of our beautiful new space. We will practice the new Sadhana of Kindness together (a beautiful and nourishing liturgy that feels timely and needed right now), recognize new members of the Durham Shambhala Center and others whose contributions to our community are deeply appreciated, and celebrate the completion of our building expansion with a festive potluck dinner.

Practice begins at 6:00 pm, dinner at 7:30.

Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be provided. If you can offer an entree, salad, side dish or dessert, please do. Otherwise, please just come and enjoy!

If you are available to help in any way with this soiree, please email Lorre Fleming at
