Keeping the Lights On

By Ruth Pinnell

Dear Sangha,

When I first came to Shambhala on a Thursday for the free meditation instruction, I was impressed by the beautiful and peaceful shrine room and the wonderful feeling of community. There were various activities during the rest of the week which were also free.  Even though the staff was volunteer, I wondered how they could possibly own this house, solely for Shambhala activities.  How could they even keep the lights on?

Then I discovered that anyone could become a “member,” which simply involved a willingness to help support Shambhala by contributing an affordable amount monthly (decided solely by the individual).

Since becoming a member, I have experienced an enriched sense of community, joy in this peaceful space for meditation, and a great delight in knowing that I am helping to keep the lights on! Perhaps you will join me,

 Ruth
