Membership

Membership

To become a member of the Durham Shambhala Center is to join a warm community of practitioners who support each other in the practice of mindfulness, awareness, and compassion.

Although membership is not required to participate in center activities, we need your support to offer our programs and to keep our doors open. Being a member involves three areas of engagement and support:

Practicing meditation

Making a connection to mindfulness-awareness meditation or related contemplative practice and integrating this practice into daily life is the best way for members to support our center and benefit the world and ourselves.

Volunteering

All of the work of our center is done by volunteers. Giving our time and talents is a vital form of support and part of our practice.

Providing financial support

We rely on membership dues to pay our basic operating expenses, offer free activities such as group meditation, celebrations, and online discussion groups, and maintain the center’s financial sustainability.  If you have benefited from the center, becoming a member is a way to extend that benefit to others, and to strengthen your path and your connection to our community. Members also receive automatic membership in Shambhala’s world-wide network and the member resources at www.shambhala.org

To become a member, you can make a monthly payment through automatic withdrawal, check, or through PayPal.  Send an email to [email protected] and our membership coordinator will get in touch with you.
